Paris to Lyon Cycle ride

Leukaemia Research Logo Sheffield Children's Hospital Logo

In 2007 it was London to Paris (200 miles), last year it was the arduous 335 mile route between Paris and Lyon and this year the 18 strong team of cyclists from PDR Construction Limited and Dransfield Properties in Sheffield are cycling 265 miles through the Alps from Lyon to Marseilles.

This year the team is raising funds for Leukaemia Research as part of their major Big 5-0 fundraising push. The funds raised will go towards the vital work the charity supports at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

To sponsor our team visit our just giving page at www.justgiving.com/pdr2009 or send a cheque to us made payable to PDR Construction Limited (receipts can be supplied on request). We are covering all of our own costs so that 100% of your donation will go to the charities.

Keep an eye on our bike ride travels by following us on our Twitter Page at www.twitter.com/pdrcycle2009 where the team will be feeding regular updates of the ups and downs of their challenge.

Setting off on June 10th here's a break down of how the four day tour will go:

Day 1, Wednesday 10th June (48 miles)

  • Flight: Manchester/Lyon 1035/1330
  • After hopefully arriving on time at Lyon Airport the team will be riding 48 miles with the first overnight stop near St Vallier

Day 2, Thursday 11th June (88 miles)

  • Cycling 88 miles, the longest day’s cycle but not the toughest!
  • Overnight stop at Suze-la-Rousse

Day 3, Friday 12th June (57 miles)

  • Climb up Mont Ventoux (yes, the one the Tour de France goes up). This is the pinnacle and focus of this years ride. By far the hardest day’s cycling the team has ever encountered. Check out www.montventouxwebcam.com.
  • There will be a gentle 20 mile (mostly uphill) 'warm up' before the team start the serious climb at Malaucene and the rest of the day will be spent simply grunting up and flying down Mont Ventoux into Carpentras.

Day 4, Saturday 13th June (74 miles)

  • Sprint finish into Marseilles
